Credit union membership is open to anyone, any age, living or working within the ‘common bond’ (the geographical area which is covered by each credit union). Everyone is welcome, it is easy to join and you receive a personal, friendly service.
The ‘common bond’ for New Central Credit Union is anyone living or working in Coventry and Warwickshire as well as staff and tenants of all Warwickshire Housing Associations.
To open an account for junior members, only a birth certificate is required. For adult membership, you need to provide two forms of identity, plus your National Insurance number. A current passport or driving licence is required as photo ID. Also proof of address is required i.e. a utility bill (dated within the last three months); bank statement; mortgage/rent statement/card; benefit letter etc should suffice.
Adults pay a joining fee of £5. Junior membership is free.
You can be a member of more than one credit union as long as you qualify under the ‘common bond’ rule of living or working within a designated area. So if you live in Birmingham you could be a member of a Birmingham credit union, but you could also be a member of a New Central Credit Union if you work in Coventry.
